Turco's new Blackhawks gargoylian look

Time to present another NHL mask for the upcoming season... It's always a great honor to create Marty Turco's gargoyle designs and to develop them year after year, and when Marty told me about his move to the Blackhawks I immediately started to sketch new gargoyles. In Indian style, of course!

Lightning buddies on Ellis' new Tampa mask

It's always much fun to paint for Dan Ellis, which I have done for many years now, he has really fun ideas and great imagination. Immediately after he had signed for Tampa Bay he contacted me and we started to talk design ideas... Dan told me that he wanted Zeus and Thor on his new Lightning mask, and so he got!

Cash in old scool style on Lundström's Frölunda mask

The design idea for
Joakim Lundström's Frölunda Indians mask was to create a clear and distinct old school design with a modern touch with lots of cool details and 3-D effects. Joakim also wanted to pay tribute to his music idol mr Cash.
I created a design rich of contrasts with a direct connection to the team uniform. On each side of the mask I painted a hanging feather, just like on an Indian chief, and on the head graphics with lines inspired by feather warbonnets. On one side a theme with Cash was created, painted in old school oil paint style in gren tints.

Chet with his custom made Pred 2.0

I and Chet Pickard discussed ideas back and forth for his new Predators design, when I came up with the idea to create his own custom made Pred, a real kickass Pred inspired by werewolves! Chet digged the idea and I got started...
On one side the Pred 2.0 makes entrance, bringing pumped-up action to the design, and on the other side a quiet Predators design with the powerful logo, the contrast between the two sides gives a frightful effect!

Dahlberg's alter ego shows up on his new Modo mask

Today we present
Nicklas Dahlberg's new Modo mask. The design is based on Modo's green stars, that appear on the sides on the white background. Lots of line graphics inspired by the team jersey, and extremely much detail work and 3-D effects. And a certain dude shows up on one side, he illustrates Nicklas' nickname...

Mask design with birth year as theme

Pontus Sjögren was born in 1985, and the same year Södertälje SK won the club's latest Swedish Championship title. Doesn't it sound like a great mask theme? Yes, that's what Pontus I thought. The motif of the gold goalie Hardy Åström and the beautiful SSK logo are the most outstanding ingredients in
Pontus Sjögren's goalie mask design.

Cruel lines create Nilsson's mask design

It's always fun to try and explore new styles. Young Luleå star Anders Nilsson's Luleå design was created in old-fashion style with violent pinstripes mixed with cool airbrush effects. The strong contrasts between color and shape in the areas between the club logos is what makes this design.

Today we present the first mask for the Swedish Elitserien 2010-2011, and it's Magnus Åkerlund's new Timrå design, in classic old school style with a clear connection to the team. And just like before his kitty cat shows up on the mask, of course as goalie...

Karelin on Liv's KHL mask

Stefan Liv came up with the great idea to pay tribute to the district's big son on his KHL mask, the super dominant Greco-Roman wrestler Alexander Karelin. I rocked loose and painted Karelin as some kind of a hulk on the side, he's breaking through the ice mask... Siberia, you know... On the rest of the mask I created a distinct and clear design featuring the club logo.

The winner of the latest mask contest in ProHockey

Oh man, it's so much fun to look at all the fantastic creations sent in from all corners of the world every time we have the mask contest in ProHockey, Europe's biggest NHL magazine. Thank you so much for all your drawings!
The contest where the readers draw the mask of their dream, and the winner gets it painted by me, has now been held for more than 10 years and was a success right from the start.
This year's winner has now been picked and the design has been painted... Congratulations to Eero Hyttinen from Finland! When I saw Eero's design I noticed the fantastic innovative style and the colorful look, it was something completely new, and that is what I look for in the drawings. Check out the winning mask in

Eye of a tiger

Andy had a plan for the whole of his mask design, so for me it was just to fasten the seatbelt and follow his genious plan. I love to paint much details, and to tie all threads together, and much 3-D effects is never wrong... The design became a mix of modern and classic, and strong contrasts and smooth curves.
Check out the mask in the
gallery. C ya!

Superman in Jönköping

Johannes wanted himself on the mask, and then we came up with the idea to paint him as some kind of superman, flying in his underwear, just like a superman... And so I did!
Around this I weaved HV71 graphics, classic and old school, and flying flags. Strong contrasts, always right. Check out the mask in
DAVEART MaskGallery and on
Facebook.
