Frölunda Visions - Johan Holmqvist, Frölunda HC, Elitserien, 2008-2009
The story
Johan was very happy with his last design that David created for him when he was playing for Dallas Stars. This design is a direct continuation to that one.
In the front the viking that Johan likes to have on his masks rules. But here David has made him a mix of Viking, Mahican and Indian...talk about culture collision. Mahican hat in fur, with Viking horns, and some wild Indian hair, and a tomahawk. Huga... The green colour on the character was a matter of course.
The design is balanced by indians on the sides. On one side Frölunda's cool club logo with an Indian, painted with cool 3D effects and depth, and with a maximum of metallic glitter. As a cool contrast the indian motif on the other side is in another style, and the Indian depicted is no less than Sitting Bull. The different styles gives a cool effect when the mask is turned from side to side.
The colours are carefully chosen, the white top of the mask with the feathers on one side melts over to a white sky on the other side. This makes the green viking in the front pop out with perfect contrasts.
Cool patterns painted into the base here and there, between the layers of metallic, add a fantastic depth to the whole. And as alwys when David paints...details, details and details...
On the chin the name gives a personal touch, and the green base colour together with the graphic lines inspired by the team uniform give stability to the design.
The design is also a good example of how you can mage the cage with its white colour a part of the design.
All these ingredients together produce a design that delivers big time.
