Lundqvist Of The Rangers - Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers, NHL, 2008-2009
The story
It's always a great honour for David Gunnarsson to create mask designs for the New York Rangers star and Team Sweden hero Henrik Lundqvist.
This design is a direct sequel to Henrik's previous designs.
Henrik likes distinct and contrast-rich designs. David thought about a new solution for this design and suggested this, that Henrik really liked.
On one side the Statue Of Liberty rules, painted with cool 3D-look and shadows that give a unique depth. Cool composite patterns were painted into the background for extra depth.
The top of the mask was painted with red background, to get maximum contrasts.
On the other side the classic logo of Rangers was painted big. The logo, and especially the scripting in it, fitted perfect on the side of the mask.
Towards the chin the blue tint in the logo changes to white, and on the other side the entire lower part is painted in glittering pearl-white with graphical lines from the Rangers away shirt.
The number on the chin puts a personal touch and together all ingredients create a total Rangers experience.
The white cage gives perfect contrasts to the whole and is a brilliant example of how you can let the cage be an important part of the whole of the design.
All colours are painted in flashing metallic, and as always in David's paintings, the detail work is extreme.
And check out all the electric flashes everywhere, this is a given element in all Henke's mask designs.
On the backplate Henrik as always wanted a tribute to New York, and the flags of his native country and USA.
