Admirals Action - Mike McKenna, Norfolk Admirals, AHL, 2008-2009

The story

Mike is a big racing fan, and he wanted his new mask to have racing style. He chose David Gunnarsson for the assignment.

David started the work. The colour choices were obvious, and David created graphics inspired by racing. David also added cool shadows and highlights, all to maximize the 3D effect. Cool star patterns painted between the layers of metallic give a fantastic depth to the whole.

On the sides David weaved in Norfolk's team logos, the cruel war ship on one side and the script on the other side. This gives a cool asymetric look to the design. The strongly graphical style on the sides suits the racing theme perfect with its strong contrasts.

As the base colour the team's clear blue colour gives perfect contrasts to the whole, so that the design pops out and is distinct also from far. And if you look close you see the tremendous detail work, as always in David's paintings...

The design is framed by graphic lines inspired by the team uniform, and on the chin you see the club's secondary logo, the anchor.

On the backplate a number of details important for Mike.
