Hurricanes Moe Graphics - Mike Leighton, Carolina Hurricanes, NHL, 2008-2009
The story
Mike had a cool idea for his new Carolina mask, he wanted to have the look of hurricanes as they are shown in the weather forecasts. First a cool old school design was created all over the mask, with focus on the club logo painted on each side in cool 3D style... The base was painted in silver, and around this the design was balanced by white and red lines inspired by the team uniform.
A cool detail is the graphic line dividing the design in the middle, like a cool Mohican haircut, that gives a cool profile to the whole. The Mohican lines were spiced up with a graphic with squares, just like on the Carolina uniform.
Around this the hurricanes are sweeping over the mask, giving nice contrasts to the whole. And then, as always in David's paintings, details, details, and more details... Check out the cool patterns between the layers of metallic that give a unique 3D look to the whole.
The entire design is painted with a maximum of metallic glitter that makes it glisten in the light from the spotlights. In the same time the design is carefully planned with strong contrasts to make it distinct.
